| Hashing in Nairobi, Kenya (Nairobi Hash House Harriers) |
|
Hashing in Nairobi started in 1978. In the initial years Nairobi Hash House Harriers, like in most parts of the world, was an expatriates affair where runners would congregate at the residence of the hare and have a run from there. Over the years, it has undergone tremendous growth and currently it is dominated by Kenyan hashers, which makes it quite unique.... Runs occur every Monday at 5.45 p.m. mostly from bars and restaurants but occasionally from hares residences. The run number as at 28th December 2009 was 1694 ![]() Chui, (with drum) the first harriet to be elected as GM, celebrating with others.
Attendance at runs average about 80 hashers although at one time average attendance had picked to well over 200 people which led to the introduction of 2 concurrent runs at different venues. This increase in size also gave birth to Original Nairobi Hash House Harriers (ONH3) which largely runs from the hares hole. The Sunday Nairobi Hash House Harriers (SNH3) was later formed to cater for hashers who were unable to make the Monday run and was also targeted as a family friendly run. On 27 December 2009, SNH3 marked their 100th run and prides itself as the ‘no matata’ (no worries) hash. ![]() Experiment, Croc Balls & ATR at WIH 2006 Chiang Mai
